LG Uplus has introduced a chat service in four foreign languages ― English, Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian ― to help overseas customers use its telecom services, the mobile carrier said Tuesday.

The company introduced its telephone interpretation service in English, Chinese and Vietnamese as the number of foreigners entering Korea continues to increase.

As the number of foreign nationals visiting Korea is expected to keep increasing due to the easing of COVID-19 quarantine measures, the company launched a foreign language chat consulting service this year. During a two-month operation test, the company saw a growing need for this kind of chat service as more than 1,000 consultations were conducted.

The foreign language chat service is available in four languages, and other languages can also be provided using Google Translate. The chat service is offered by professional customer service assistants from Russia, China and Vietnam who were hired in 2022.

The company said customers can use this chat service by visiting its webpage at expat.uplus.co.kr or the company's Facebook messenger channel. The service provides assistance in more than 25 areas such as service subscription, cancellation, payment, product installation and use of devices.

"Previously, foreign language speakers had difficulties using our service but we expect this chat service can facilitate their access to telecom services," the company said.

To get closer to foreign language speakers, LG Uplus will launch a multilingual website next month where foreign customers can easily access information. English is used as the basic language and Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian will also be provided sequentially.
