SK shieldus has been providing cybersecurity services to over 2,000 customer companies through its 24-hour, 365-day control system, in response to the growing threat of cyberattacks.

"In the past, cyberattackers could succeed if they tried to send files through malicious emails, but more recently, various methods have been used," Kim Jong-hyun, the chief of Secudium Center, which oversees the company's cybersecurity, told reporters, Thursday, at the company headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

"Our Secudium Center security control system provides a service that monitors 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for external cybersecurity threats and ensures that there are no security problems. For example, when a massive zero-day attack occurred last December, it was difficult for companies to check and analyze the situation one by one to respond," he said. A zero-day attack is a cyberattack that exploits a security vulnerability not yet known to the vendor or developer.

SK shieldus is the new name of ADT Caps, a subsidiary of SK Group's ICT investment company, SK Square. The company changed its name to SK shieldus last October and announced it would become a "life care platform," providing both physical security and cybersecurity services.

The company said that cybersecurity is increasing in importance each day because cyberattacks have been growing rapidly in number against companies. The global trend is for companies to become more digitalized, accelerated by changes brought by the pandemic, including the large numbers of employees working from home and personal consumption shifting to online platforms.

"The role of our cybersecurity platform is divided into threat analysis and threat decision. We analyze threats when cyberattacks on our customers come in and provide solutions on how to respond. There have been tens of millions of new threats last year and this year, but the damage our customers suffered was zero," Kim said.

SK shieldus provides all areas of cybersecurity, including security consulting, system integration, security control, cloud security and mobile care services. Thanks to its capabilities, its cybersecurity division recorded 338.1 billion won ($273.3 million) in sales in 2021, up 18.2 percent from a year ago.

Stating that it employs 1,500 cybersecurity experts, the largest number in the domestic cybersecurity industry, the company said it continues to research, develop and internalize cybersecurity technologies to respond quickly to complex challenges and intelligent threats due to the spread of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data and cloud computing.
