Yonsei professor becomes ACS fellow

Cheon Jin-woo, a chemistry professor at Yonsei University, has become the first Korean fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS).


The society chose professor Cheon, 52, as its fellow on Aug. 11 in recognition of his study of nanotechnology in chemistry contributing to medical development.

The ACS is the world's largest science academic association which has 160,000 members from more than 100 countries.

The association annually selects those who made remarkable achievements in the advancement of chemistry as fellows.

This year some 99 people including professor Cheon were honored.

Cheon concurrently serves as a senior editor of a journal published by the ACS. He won the 2002 President Award for his scientific achievements.
