Eco-friendly sketch contest to be held

Duksung Women's University will hold a sketch contest for schoolchildren aged 11 or above at its campus in Seoul on Sept. 27.

The annual competition is in its fourth year.

The school said it organizes the contest to seek out talented young students and to contribute to the development of culture and art.

"The most significant feature of our competition is that it is environmentally friendly in that we limit the participants to only use colored pencils, not paints or crayons which can produce pollutants," a school official said.

Rhie Won-bok, the author of "Far Countries, Neighboring Countries," an educational cartoon series about world history, will judge the competition along with other illustration experts.

He is now a chair-professor of the visual design department at the university. Lee and other judges will focus on individuals' creativity and idea as well as artistic ability.

Various events including Rhie's autograph session will take place before the contest.
Every elementary, middle, high school student aged 11 or above can take part in the competition for free.

The university is accepting entries on a first-come first-served basis until Sept. 24 through its website: www. Duksung-sketch.com.

Prize winners will also be announced on the website on Oct. 6.
