Chinese bar could get fined for scantily-clad women

A bar in Wenzhou, China, has drawn attention for its publicity stunt for which it reportedly hired 100 women to wear lingerie and stand outside in freezing temperatures.

According to the Chinese portal site NetEase, the women grabbed many people's attention by stripping down to their underwear and walking around the city. The event meant to promote the newly-renovated bar.

However, authorities may impose a fine on the bar for "damaging social virtue," the report said.

Local reports did not mention the name of the bar.

Internet users are also criticizing the bar for what they called a crude promotion.

According to Shanghaiist, public stripping of this sort has become more common in China. That is, so long as the business is able to avoid fines from the government.

In September, a Shanghai-based laundry company was fined for paying women to strip to their underwear on a subway as part of a promotional stunt.
