The masked Islamic State (IS) executioner, better known as "Jihadi John," has been named, according to the BBC.
The executioner is identified as Kuwaiti-born British man Mohammed Emwazi, 27, who first appeared in a video where he apparently executed U.S. journalist James Foley.
Emwazi spoke with a British accent, and is infamous for jeering at Western forces before beheading hostages.
He is thought to have been involved also in the beheadings of U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff, British aid worker David Haines, British taxi driver Alan Henning and American aid worker Abdue-Rahman Kassig, the BBC reported Thursday. He was also caught in a video this month when Japanese journalist Kenji Goto was beheaded.
Emwazi was brought to London at the age of 6 and was raised like any British child, playing football in the streets of West London. His friends described him as football-mad.
In 2009, he completed studying computing at University of Westminster. He is believed to have gone to Syria in 2013 to join the IS.

영국 BBC 현지언론은 ‘지하디 존’ 으로 알려진 복면을 쓴 이슬람 무장세력(IS) 전사의 정체가 드러났다고 밝혔다.
쿠웨이트 태생의 영국인 모하메드 엠와지 (27)는 미국인 기자 제임스 폴리 참수 동영상에 처음 등장했다.
엠와지는 6살 때 서쪽 런던에서 축구를 하며 영국 생활을 시작했다.
그는 인질을 살해하기 전 그의 영국 발음으로 서방 세력을 조롱했으며, 26일 영국 BBC에 따르면 그는 미국인 기자 스티븐 소틀로프, 영국인 데이비드 하인즈와 앨런 헤밍, 미국인 구호활동가 압둘 라흐만 카시그 등의 참수에 가담한 것으로 알려져 있다.
그는 이번 달 일본인 기자 고토 겐지 참수 동영상에도 등장한 바 있다.
그의 친구들은 그가 점심시간과 방과 후에 축구를 하며 놀았고 축구를 매우 좋아했다고 전했다.
그는 2009년에 웨스트민스터대학에서 컴퓨터 프로그래밍을 공부하고 2013년 경 IS에 가담하기 위해 시리아로 넘어간 것으로 알려졌다.
