The man, 29, poured gasoline over his body, and then set himself on fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Seongdang-dong at about 4 a.m.
Police said he had proposed to a woman, 33, with whom he had been living.
The woman injured her ankle trying to stop her suicidal lover, and was treated at a nearby hospital.

결혼 거절에 아파트 주차장서 20대 남성 분신
1일 오후 4시 8분께 대구 달서구 성당동의 한 아파트 주차장에서 A(29)씨가 분신해 숨졌다.
A씨는 자신의 차량에 있던 휘발유를 꺼내 스스로 몸에 뿌린 뒤 불을 붙인 것으로 알려졌다.
경찰의 한 관계자는 'A씨가 B(33)씨에게 결혼을 요구했지만 B씨가 거절하자 스스로 몸에 불을 질렀다'고 밝혔다.
B씨는 A씨와 동거했던 것으로 경찰 조사결과 나타났다.
B씨는 분신을 시도하던 A씨를 말리던 중 발목을 다쳐 인근 병원에서 치료를 받고 있다.
경찰은 정확한 사건 경위를 조사하고 있다. (연합뉴스)
