Actor Song Seung-heon, 38, will join the new drama "Saimdang, the Herstory," which started shooting Monday, with actress Lee Young-ae.
Song's management company, Group Eight, said Monday that the actor will play the role of Lee Kyum, who falls in love with Saimdang in the drama.
Lee Kyum is an artist who will be Saimdang's soulmate. It's been 11 years since Lee played a role in a drama. She is widely known for her performance in "Jewel in the Palace" in 2003.
The drama is slated to air in the first half of 2016.
Song has been making headlines for his romance with Chinese actress Liu Yifei.

송승헌, 이영애의 남자된다…'사임당' 출연 확정
배우 송승헌이 내년 방송되는 SBS '사임당, 더 허스토리(the Herstory)'에서 이영애와 호흡을 맞춘다.
제작사 그룹에이트는 10일 '송승헌이 드라마 '사임당' 출연을 확정지었다'며 ''사임당'은 오늘 첫 촬영을 시작하며 100% 사전제작으로 진행된다'고 밝혔다.
송승헌은 어린 시절 담을 넘어 자신의 집에 들어온 사임당과 운명적인 만남을 시작으로 평생 그녀를 마음에 품고 사는 순정남 이겸 역을 맡게 됐다.
조선시대 예술인들이 모여 살던 '비익당'의 주인이기도 한 이겸은 그림, 글씨, 거문고, 춤 등에 뛰어난 재능을 보인 예술인으로, 사임당과 사랑을 넘어 예술로 소통하게 된다.
이영애가 11년 만에 복귀해 화제를 모은 '사임당'은 '태왕사신기' '탐나는 도다' 등의 윤상호 PD가 연출하고 '앞집여자' '두 번째 프로포즈' 등을 집필한 박은령 작가가 대본을 맡았다.
