The star was assigned the new role at a ceremony held by the Visit Korea Committee, Friday, at Gyeongbok Palace in Seoul to celebrate 2016-2018 as the official years to visit Korea.
Seolhyun is one of the hottest idol stars in the nation, appearing in movies, TV series and ads. Her ads for mobile carrier SK Telecom and TG&Co's smartphone Luna notably drew the public's attentions with her physique emphasized in the ads.

Seolhyun made headlines on Monday with magazine photos where she wore see-through clothes that revealed her underwear.
Previous celebrities appointed in celebration of the official years to visit Korea include actor Bae Yong-joon, figure skater Kim Yu-na and girl band Girls' Generation.

걸그룹 AOA 설현이 ‘2016-2018 한국방문의 해’ 홍보대사로 위촉됐다.
설현은 배우 이민호와 함께 6일 경복궁에서 열린 한국방문위원회 주회 ‘2016-2018 한국방문의 해’ 선포식에 참석해 홍보대사로 임명됐다.
이날 행사에는 김종덕 문화체육관광부 장관을 비롯해 박삼구 한국방문위원회 위원장, 각국 주한대사, 외국인 관광객 등 1000여 명이 모여 선포식을 축하했다.
지난 ‘2010-2012 한국 방문의 해’ 홍보대사로는 배우 배용준, 피겨선수 김연아, 소녀시대 등이 활약했고, 설현이 다음 주자로 바통을 건네받고 대한민국의 대표 얼굴로 활동한다.
이로써 설현은 가요계는 물론 광고, 영화, 국가 브랜드를 대표하는 홍보대사까지 두루 섭렵하며 뜨거운 인기를 증명했다.
