Korea is about to go "on sale" to promote the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games to foreign tourists.

The Visit Korea Committee said Monday the "Korea Grand Sale" would be held from Jan. 20 to Feb. 28.

The sale will offer foreign tourists discounts on shopping, transport and accommodation.

A total of 315 local companies will participate.

"We will do our best to promote Korea's attractive winter image as well as the event itself, so that more foreigners will be interested in the (PyeongChang) Olympics and visit our country," said committee secretary general Han Kyung-ah.

Department stores, including Lotte, Hyundai and Shinsegae Department Stores, and duty free shops including Doota Duty Free, Galleria Duty Free and SM Duty Free, will offer various discount promotions.

Large retailers such as E-mart and Lotte Hi-mart will also offer discounts for certain items.

Korean Air will provide air fare-hotel packages at discount rates, while Asiana Airlines will offer up to 60 percent discount on tickets for routes between Chinese and European cities and Incheon.

Jeju Air will provide discounts of up to 91 percent.

Shilla Stay, a budget hotel affiliated with Hotel Shilla, will offer up to 50 percent discount while Grand Ambassador Seoul in Myeongdong will offer up to 55 percent discount.

Ski resorts in PyeongChang and other counties in Gangwon Province will offer up to 50 percent discounts on tickets for lifts, gondolas and skiing equipment.

The committee will also promote PyeongChang 2018 at local winter festivals in Gangwon Province next month.

They include the "Olympic Festival," the "Gyeongpo International Fireworks Festival" and the "Hwacheon Sancheono Ice Festival."
