Mercury to plunge to minus 12 degrees Celsius in Seoul

The fierce cold snap that gripped the nation over the weekend will continue on Tuesday, sending the mercury below minus 12 degrees Celsius in Seoul and surrounding areas.

Cities near Seoul, such as Incheon and Suwon in Gyeonggi Province, will have morning lows below minus 8 and minus 12 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Daejeon, Sejong, and Chuncheon in Gangwon Province will also have early lows below minus 12 degrees Celsius.

Sporadic snow is expected in some parts of Jeolla Province on Tuesday morning, while most parts of the country will enjoy clear skies.

"The nationwide cold snap will run through Wednesday and start to wane from Thursday," said a Korea Meteorological Administration official.

"People should make sure their pipes don't freeze."
