A man is in hospital after unwittingly drinking bleach from a water bottle in his motel room, according to Miryang Police on Tuesday.
The incident happened when the man in his 40s drank from a water bottle that was placed in his room's refrigerator at 11:30 p.m. Monday.
When he started vomiting, he immediately called the emergency hotline.
"After drinking beer, I got up to drink water," the man told police. "However, when I drank from the container it tasted weird and smelt like bleach."
The man is in a stable condition. Reports say he drank only a small amount of the bottle's contents.
Meanwhile, the motel owner was "lost for words." He said bottled water was purchased regularly and placed in the rooms.
"We are investigating how the bleach was put inside the water bottle," a police official told Yonhap News Agency, a Korean news outlet.
