Her name swept South Korea's major websites, including the biggest portal Naver, reflecting her lasting popularity here, even after her retirement in 2010. She is now working in China as a singer.
Aoi, 34, announced her marriage on New Year's Day through an update of her blog and social media accounts that included a photo of her smiling with her husband-to-be, identified as DJ NON.
"He is not handsome and rich. But he accepted what I had done in the past," Aoi wrote in Japanese. "I don't regret what I have done. But I know it's a very serious and important issue to consider when deciding a marriage. So I have thought I would marry a person who accepts my past. Given this, he is awesome."
She did not elaborate on the date and location of her wedding ceremony.
