ON THE SPOT - Ringing into the New Year at Bosingak

On Dec. 31 ― New Year's Eve ― a huge mass of roughly 100,000 people gathered in Jongro, where the Bosingak Belfry stands, to count down to the New Year and watch the Bosingak bell-ringing ceremony.

The mercury in the capital dropped below minus 8 degrees Celsius, but this did not seem to be a problem for the excited crowd.

Some people were captured on camera with their hands tightly put together, praying for happier days ahead in the New Year.
