Authorities have warned beachgoers to stay vigilant during water activities after a dead shark was found off Yeongdeok, North Gyeongsang Province.
A tourist found the shark stuck in a breakwater at 5:20 p.m. on Sunday with its head and the upper part of the body remaining intact. The remaining parts were severely decomposed, preventing investigators from recognizing its species, length and other details.
The National Institute of Fisheries Science and Pukyong National University have launched an investigation.
Experts said sharks were possibly swimming off Yeongdeok and warned divers, surfers and tourists on neighboring beaches to stay vigilant.
In June 2017, the body of a shark ― 120 centimeters long ― was found in the area, according to police.
Last Monday, a shark-shaped marine creature and a shark fin-shaped object were seen off Hamduk Beach on Jeju Island.
