A 6.2-magnitude earthquake shook the Japanese prefecture of Fukushima on Sunday, the Meteorological Agency said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property. The agency did not issue a tsunami warning.
The quake occurred at 7.23 pm (1023 GMT) with an epicentre off the coast of Fukushima at a depth of 50 kilometres, the agency said.
In March 2011, a powerful quake and tsunami struck the north-east, leaving more than 18,000 people dead. The twin natural disasters caused a meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. (dpa)
