The 56th Baeksang Arts Awards will take place on June 5 at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province. The event will not invite an audience to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the organizing committee, Friday.

Launched in 1965, it is one of the most prestigious annual awards ceremonies that recognizes the remarkable cast and crew of TV programs, movies and theater. The event was initially set for May 1, but delayed following the pandemic.

"We had a rigorous judging process to seek professionalism and impartiality, just like we did last year," the organizer said.

The candidates are the cast and crew of TV programs, films and theater shows that were released April 1, 2019-April 30, 2020. There are additional qualifications. A TV drama, for instance, should have at least four episodes and movies should be full-length.

The nominees will be disclosed on May 8.

The awards will be live-streamed on cable channel JTBC at 5 p.m. (KST) on June 5.
