Police confirmed Friday that Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon committed suicide a day earlier.
"We found no signs of foul play," officers said in a statement.
The confirmation came a day after Park was found dead in a forested, off-the-beaten track on Mount. Bukak.
Police said they had reached the conclusion after examining the body, circumstantial evidence, and interviewing Park's family members and others close to him.
Following this conclusion, police dropped a plan to conduct an autopsy and handed the body over to the bereaved family to make funeral arrangements.
