BERLIN ― Samsung Electronics' latest foldable smartphones got off to a strong start in Europe as the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 have doubled the sales of the previous foldable phones, according to the marketing chief of its Europe division, Thursday.

"Shipments of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 doubled those of previous models in the European market, as the first sales figures of the new products reached an all-time high in Europe," Benjamin Braun, chief marketing officer of Samsung Europe, said in a press conference at the company's exhibition hall during the IFA tech fair in Berlin.

Samsung rolled out the foldable smartphones in 36 European countries including the U.K., Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands on Aug. 26, and their sales have already seen a significant improvement.

Thanks to their popularity, Samsung expects the popularization of foldable phones to accelerate.

The company said the sales of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in the European market are about six to four, respectively. Popular color options include graphite and bora purple for the Z Flip 4, and gray green and phantom black for the Z Fold 4.

Among the two foldable phones, the Z Flip 4 is receiving a favorable response in Europe for its improved battery capacity and sleek design. The Z Fold 4 is attracting users due to its enhanced multi-tasking feature and reduced weight, which was decreased by 8 grams compared to the Z Fold 3.

For users of previous versions of the foldable phones, the company said it will begin providing software updates in early September.
