Samsung Electronics' health care mobile app Samsung Health has reached 64 million monthly active users worldwide. The number of users of the Galaxy Watch's sleep feature has also doubled in 2023 compared to last year, according to the leader of its digital health team, Tuesday.

As more people are having trouble sleeping due to the manifold complexities of technology and lifestyle, Samsung aims to continue providing better sleep care features with its mobile health app and smartwatch, the company said.

“Samsung Health, which was launched in 2012, is being used by 64 million people worldwide every month. Samsung Health users have shown a strong interest in the sleep feature and the number of users of the sleep feature on the Galaxy Watch has nearly doubled compared to last year,” said Hon Pak, vice president and head of the Digital Health Team at Samsung.

Since Samsung first launched Samsung Health as a simple fitness tracking app in 2012, the company has continued to provide upgrades.

In 2015, Samsung added sleep-related features. In 2021, it evolved into a more specialized digital health platform by applying bioactive sensors to the Galaxy Watch. In April, the company also introduced a feature to the app that predicts women's menstrual cycles using the temperature sensor of the Galaxy Watch5.

Samsung thinks sleep care will be a future growth driver for Samsung Health because quality sleep is essential for physical and mental health and has a significant impact on overall health.

Half of Galaxy Watch users use the sleep feature on a weekly basis, with 40 percent consistently using it at least three times a week to monitor their sleep habits. Based on the cumulative user sleep data, the health app also recommends a suitable sleep style.

Samsung will offer enhanced sleep management, fitness features and health monitoring capabilities. To this end, the company will continue to collaborate with a variety of specialized institutional partners. In April, Samsung announced Health Stack, an open-source project designed to help research organizations acquire and analyze health care data.
