Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will unveil home appliances utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES), offering consumers the experience of a more convenient lifestyle based on the emerging technology, according to the companies, Sunday.

The CES will be held in Las Vegas from Jan. 9 to Jan 12. At the world's largest tech show, the two Korean Big Tech companies believe that smart home appliances integrated with AI, will be the cornerstone of lifestyles in the future and therefore, plan to unveil their unique products to preempt the market.

Samsung Electronics will introduce the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo and Bespoke Jet AI vacuum cleaners, which feature enhanced AI capabilities at this year's edition of the CES.

The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo, capable of both dry and wet cleaning, has greatly improved its object recognition capabilities and possesses even more precise driving via the use of AI technology, according to the company.

"Using the AI floor detection function, it distinguishes between hardwood floors and carpets and cleans according to the floor material," the company said. "The AI-powered object recognition function has also evolved to recognize and avoid not only small obstacles about 1 centimeter high but also a wider range of objects such as smartphone cables and pet waste pads."

The Bespoke Jet AI, a stick-type vacuum cleaner, has also enhanced its AI mode to categorize and optimize suction power based on brush load and pressure, the company said.

Samsung also applied AI to food-related products. Its Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub Plus, to be unveiled at the CES, will include an AI Vision Inside feature, which detects the ingredients inside of the fridge and recommends a list of recipes that can be made from them.

Through the Vision AI function, which has been trained by analyzing about a million photos of different types of food, the new product automatically creates a list of tasty recipes, Samsung said.

"Samsung Food app recommends recipes based on the ingredients stored in the refrigerator using the AI Vision Inside feature. Consumers will be able to check the recipe found in Samsung Food on a large screen while cooking, and if they send this recipe to the oven or induction, it automatically sets the optimal time and power for the menu," the company said.

LG Electronics will also unveil its vision to provide consumers with a better experience by applying AI technology to home appliances.

The most notable product is its Smart Home AI Agent. LG said this product, which applies robotics and AI technology, can act as a helper that can do some of the things people do at home.

With its advanced two-legged wheel design, the AI Agent is able to navigate the home independently, LG said.

“The intelligent device can verbally interact with users and express emotions through movements made possible by its articulated leg joints. Moreover, the use of multi-modal AI technology, which combines voice and image recognition along with natural language processing, enables the smart home AI agent to understand context and intentions as well as actively communicate with users,” LG said.
