Coway is attracting customers with its mattresses and bed frames rental service that is also used by luxury hotels, as affordable rental fees and a regular maintenance service are persuading consumers to opt for the high-quality beds, according to the country's major home appliance maker, Wednesday.

Berex, the company's sleep and healing care brand, has launched the products for rental to target local consumers who are increasingly feeling financially pressured due to the country's high market prices. By using the service, they don't have to buy the premium mattresses or bed frames, which cost over 2 million won ($1,500).

One of the company's hottest items for rental is the Berex Signature Mattress. It costs 2.95 million won for super-single (SS) size but it is also available for a monthly rental fee of 32,900 won. Another popular item, the Berex Signature Mattress Comfort, is sold for 3.45 million won in the same size but also can be rented for 42,900 won per month.

Berex Woody Frame, one of the premium bed frames the company offers, is available for 15,900 won per month for rental for SS size, if a lump sum payment of 1.48 million won is too much. With Berex Volume Frame, the two products are the company's latest bed frame models.

The company's rental service includes a maintenance service, with an employee coming to where the rented mattresses are and cleaning them every four months. During a rental period, the company also offers a one-time mattress topper replacement service for free.

Coway has launched the rental service as it discovered that a rising number of consumers in the country tend to spend money for quality sleep and equipment or tools to achieve this purpose. For those in the country's top economic percentile, even purchasing a luxurious mattress and bed frame came prior to many other items on their shopping lists.

"We've found that more and more people in the country are not hesitating to use premium mattress models," a company official said. "Most of them value rest and healing, and premium models that are mostly guaranteed quality-wise are attracting their attention."
