First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun has visited Kenya to discuss an upcoming summit with African nations and paid a courtesy call on the Kenyan president, his office said Wednesday.

During his courtesy call Tuesday (Kenya time), Kim voiced expectations for President William Ruto's attendance at the Korea-Africa summit, set for June 4-5 in Seoul.

Ruto welcomed the envoy's visit and expressed hopes for deeper cooperation between the two countries in a wide range of areas, such as trade, education, infrastructure and agriculture.

Kim is on a four-day trip to Kenya and Mauritius this week as a special presidential envoy for the summit. (Yonhap)
