A Russian diplomat stationed in Seoul refused to take a breathalyzer test after causing a traffic accident earlier this week, police said Friday.

The diplomat working at the Russian Embassy in Seoul had a collision with another car in an alley of Seosomun-dong, central Seoul, at around 8:46 p.m. Thursday, according to the Seoul Namdaemun Police Station.

Police officers, detecting the suspicious smell of alcohol on the diplomat, attempted to conduct a breathalyzer test but he refused, claiming diplomatic immunity, the station said.

Afterward, an employee from the embassy came to the scene and took the diplomat away. Police said they plan to consider whether to pursue charges of violating the road traffic law. (Yonhap)
