A delegation from the Energy Transition Valley in Quebec, Canada, visited POSCO Future M's cathode material plant in Pohang, Tuesday, the company said, Thursday.
The delegation consisted of representatives from three cities, including Becancour, where POSCO Future M is building a cathode material plant, along with Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres. They are part of a Quebec government organization focused on discovering innovative ideas, commercializing them for exports, and promoting both domestic and international investments through industry-academic collaboration projects.
The delegation included Lucie Allard, mayor of Becancour; Jean Lamarche, mayor of Trois-Rivieres; Michel Anger, mayor of Shawinigan; and Adel Omar Dahmane, vice president of Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres, along with nine other participants.
Their visit coincided with the nearing completion of the POSCO Future M and GM joint venture, "Ultium CAM," cathode material plant. During the visit, the delegation engaged in discussions on various topics, including a plant tour, benchmarking strategies for local workforce training in Quebec, and exploring ways to strengthen support and cooperation for regional projects.
Allard expressed strong community interest and high expectations for the joint venture, emphasizing hopes for continued exchanges and collaboration to support local industries and workforce development.
Shin Yang-soo, head of the cathode materials group at POSCO Future M's Pohang plant, asked for support for the successful establishment of their business in Quebec, saying, "We hope Quebec's infrastructure and POSCO Future M's business experience will lead to new growth opportunities for the region."
In June, POSCO Future M invited 21 key employees from Ultium CAM to Pohang for a month-long job training program.
