President Yoon Suk Yeol's approval rating rose to 20 percent in three weeks following his press conference last week, a poll showed Friday.
Positive assessment of Yoon's performance added 3 percentage points from the previous week while negative assessment fell 3 percentage points to 71 percent in the same period, according to the poll conducted on 1,002 people aged 18 or older between Tuesday and Thursday by Gallup Korea.
Yoon's approval rating dropped consecutively for four weeks before hitting a record low of 17 percent last week.
The rise in Yoon's support is attributed to an increase in support in conservative strongholds like Daegu following his press conference, the pollster said.
Yoon's handling of first lady Kim Keon Hee's allegations, the economy and lack of communication were cited as reasons for the negative assessment.
The approval rating of the ruling People Power Party came to 27 percent, down 2 percentage points from a week earlier, while support for the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea fell 2 percentage points to 34 percent.
In the same survey, 73 percent of the respondents said the reelection of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is likely to have a negative impact on the Korean economy.
On North Korea, 50 percent replied Trump's election will have a negative effect on inter-Korean ties and national security.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level. (Yonhap)
