The defense minister has ordered a meeting of key commanders and called for tightened vigilance, the ministry said Tuesday, after President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law.

The minister has also ordered the military to stay on emergency guard, it added.

The move came after Yoon declared martial law, citing the need to eradicate pro-North Korean forces and uphold the constitutional order. (Yonhap)
