Hyundai Motor Group donated 35 billion won for social outreach purposes this year, bringing its cumulative donations for the past 22 years to 429 billion won ($296 million), the global automobile company said Friday.

Hyundai Motor donated the money to the Community Chest of Korea (CCK) on Thursday. The group's President Chang Jae-hoon and other executives visited CCK's office in Seoul and met CCK Chairman Kim Byong-joon to deliver the money.

CCK has been running a campaign from December to January each year to collect donations for underprivileged groups in celebration of the end of the year. The company's latest donation has contributed to the campaign's donation pool.

"We have made the donation this year as well," Chang said. "Helping out our local neighbors is another critical corporate role. This is part of our ongoing efforts to make the company's future more sustainable."

Other subsidiaries of Hyundai Group joined the automobile giant's outreach efforts by donating to CCK. Hyundai Engineering donated 230 million won, Hyundai E&C donated 220 million won and Hyundai Mobis gave 100 million won. Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Ulsan Manufacturing Plant on Dec. 6 offered free meals and gifts to children from low-income families in Ulsan.

Kia is currently carrying out social outreach activities in local communities near its business sites in Seoul, Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province and Gwangju. Hyundai Wia, which produces automobile parts for Hyundai Motor Group, plans to donate 10 new vehicles, including one refurbished one to serve as a mobile food caterer, to a welfare facility in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, where the company is based.
