A female elementary school teacher in the central city of Daejeon has been indicted on charges of sexually assaulting a male student, according to police and education officials Friday.

The teacher, whose identity has been withheld, was arrested and charged with the alleged rape of a minor, according to the Daejeon Metropolitan City Office of Education and local police.

The education office offered an apology, promising to enforce a zero-tolerance policy for similar cases in the future.

In June, a high school physical education teacher in Daejeon was investigated for allegedly sexually harassing a student in a separate case. Another teacher at the same school was suspended after it was revealed she had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student. (Yonhap)
