More than 60 people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in violence at the Seoul Western District Court last month during protests against the formal arrest of President Yoon Suk Yeol, police said.

A police official told reporters that 99 suspects are being investigated over the incident at the Seoul Western District Court on Jan. 18 and 19, with 63 formally arrested and the rest under investigation without detention.

Police apprehended 86 people at the scene for allegedly breaking into the courthouse complex and committing violence and vandalism over the court's decision to issue a warrant for Yoon's formal arrest on Jan. 19 over his botched martial law attempt.

In addition to those taken into custody at the scene, police identified 13 more suspects.

Police are currently looking into whether the suspects had visited the court prior to the incident and whether any organized group may have been behind the violence. (Yonhap)
