Euisun Chung, executive chair of Hyundai Motor Group, had an exchange with Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President Donald Trump, at a golf event in the United States, according to industry sources Thursday.

According to the sources, Trump Jr. and his daughter, golfer Kai Trump, participated in a pro-am event at the Genesis Invitational of the PGA Tour held Wednesday (local time) at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California.

A pro-am event, held before an official tournament, pairs professional golfers with amateur participants. This year, the Genesis Invitational organizers invited VIP guests, as well as first responders and firefighters from California.

While Chung, whose company Genesis is the title sponsor of the tournament, did not participate in the pro-am, he was seen engaging in conversation with Trump Jr. in the dining area and while watching the game, the sources said.

Trump Jr. is regarded as an influential figure in his father's administration and has been actively engaging with Korean business leaders.

In December, Trump Jr. met with Chung Yong-jin, chairman of Korea's retail conglomerate Shinsegae Group, at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. (Yonhap)
