The skirt over pants look, wearing a skirt over pants, has been rising as a fashion trend among women.

Korean online fashion platform Musinsa shared its analysis of search volume data from Jan. 1 to Feb. 18 on its website, which showed a significant surge in searches for skirt pants.

The keyword search during the period increased by 197 percent compared to the same period last year. Along with this, searches for related keywords like skirt trousers and layered skirt increased nearly four times compared to last year.

“The style of wearing skirts with pants is also gaining attention overseas under the keyword 'skant' (a compound of skirt and pants)," the platform said.

"Skirt pants have established themselves as a popular fashion item among Musinsa's female customers who prefer unique silhouettes and designs."

The skirt over pants look is gaining popularity as a style that combines the comfortable features of pants with the fashionable emphasis of skirts.

This trend particularly started garnering attention during the last fall and winter (FW) seasons. During the FW season, layering pleated midi skirts over pants became a trend, as the double-layered design covering the knee was recognized as a fashion that provided both warmth and style.

Popular skirt over pants items include the local brand Miseki Seoul's layered skirt pants set and FLAREUP's pleated midi skirt, which have remained in the top rankings of Musinsa's skirt category from December through this month.

For this upcoming spring season, the "girlcore" style, which involves wearing shorter skirts or skirts with frilly details over pants, is trending. The popular women's fashion brands on Musinsa are releasing such skirt pants as their new items for the 2025 spring and summer (SS) season.

Women's fashion brand hugyourskin plans to roll out skirt layered pants on Tuesday. This product, with matching materials for skirts and pants, emphasizes a girly style with lace tape to the skirt hem.

Additionally, the brand's frill skirt jogger pants released last month have been well-received, with two out of three colors selling out.

Casual fashion brand Luvistrue has newly released I Am Pattern Frill Pants for the spring season, which is created in a unique design with patterned frill skirts to casual-mood training pants.
