Decorating diaries has been a popular trend among Gen Zers, but it is gaining even more popularity among women in their 20s and 30s joining the trend.
As the new year began, people flocked to diary decorating, recording their resolutions and showcasing them on social media, sparking a surge in demand for high-quality writing tools.
According to the local online shopping platform 29CM, transactions for stationery and office supplies increased by 75 percent compared to the previous year from Feb. 1 to 12.
Sales of premium fountain pens, ballpoint pens and pencils increased 2.4 times during the same period, while journals and planners grew by 64 percent and notebooks by 43 percent. Desk accessories, such as toolboxes and book stands, saw a two-fold increase.
Sales have significantly increased across the board, from premium writing instruments and notebook brands to distinctive design stationery. In particular, high-end products have gained popularity among millennials and Gen Zers, who tend to pursue everyday luxury through premium writing supplies.
The local stationery brand Point of View, which introduces high-end domestic and international items, also saw an increase in its transactions on the platform. Its sales grew more than 7.6 times compared to the previous year from Jan. 1 to Feb. 12.
Brands like Blackheart, which sells famous foreign pencils, and design stationery brand Oimu doubled their transactions, whereas Japanese stationery brand Midori increased sales by more than 75 percent compared to the same period last year.
The platform shared that the early bird tickets for its upcoming fair, "Inventario: 2025 Stationery Fair," slated for April 2 through 6, were sold out in just three days. The stationery fair, which will be held at COEX in Gangnam District, Seoul, will offer collaborative products between popular stationary brands and creators.
