LG CNS has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Silicon Valley-based artificial intelligence (AI) firm Weights & Biases (W&B) to collaborate on agentic AI, the Korean company said Thursday.

The signing ceremony took place in Silicon Valley, Wednesday (local time).

Through the partnership, the two companies will collaborate on sharing agentic AI technologies and conducting joint research and development to optimize the operation and performance of agentic AI services. Additionally, they will explore new business opportunities to secure a leading position in Korea's agentic AI market.

Agentic AI is a framework for AI agents, capable of making autonomous decisions by independently formulating hypotheses and conducting inferences to verify them.

Founded in 2017, W&B provides technology to track and manage the processes and results of AI model development and validation. Its solutions are currently used by more than 1,500 companies and over 800,000 AI developers worldwide, including major AI firms such as OpenAI, Nvidia and Cohere.

So far, W&B has secured approximately $2 billion of investments. The company's co-founder and CEO, Lukas Biewald, previously worked at OpenAI, while its chief technology officer, Shawn Lewis, is a former Google engineer.

LG CNS will upgrade its integrated agentic AI services for enterprise clients, which consist of three stages: consulting, platform establishment and operation, through this collaboration. The company plans to use W&B's solutions for the operation stage, which involves performance optimization and quality monitoring.

W&B's Weave is designed to evaluate and validate the performance of large language models, ensuring AI provides reliable responses. The firm's Models solution streamlines the data input process for AI model training, facilitates fine-tuning and monitors training progress.

The MOU was signed on the sidelines of the Open Innovation Fair hosted by LG CNS from Monday to Wednesday in Silicon Valley. The fair was aimed at encouraging collaboration between startups in the agentic AI and robotics sectors.

“Along with the latest MOU with W&B, LG CNS will proactively expand its cooperation with global firms having expertise in AI services,” LG CNS Chief Technology Officer Park Sang-yeop said.

“We will continue to discover companies with outstanding technologies through events like the Open Innovation Fair and other global networking opportunities.”
