Broadcaster SBS made an official apology to the public Monday for accidentally sending out live clips of reporters in a joyful mood at the "Sewol" tragedy site in Jindo.

Sports DongA said Monday two male reporters, who were briefly having a gleeful moment as apparent from their smiley faces, were wired to live video feed.

They were shown over a monitor's full background for about four seconds during the broadcaster's Sunday afternoon special report. The program was in the middle of a studio discussion.

SBS originally intended to show standby reporters in background while in-boxing one of the discussion guests at the bottom left corner of monitor.

It was apparent the reporters and on-site engineers in Jindo failed to communicate in a neat fashion, resulting in the reporters failing to catch the live cue.

The accident drew public criticisms against the reporters for displaying attitudes irritable to viewers concerned about the tragedy. As the repercussion heightened, SBS released a written apology.
