Medical dramas are a sure hit with Korean television audiences.
Add in the tension between the two divided Koreas and heartthrob actors Lee Jong-suk and Park Hae-jin, and you might have a hit in the works.
"Dr. Stranger" is currently being aired by the biggest Chinese streaming site Youku.
The drama began airing in Korea on May 13, and after six episodes of the drama were shown in China, it had 62.26 million clicks as of May 22.
In "Dr. Stranger," Lee plays a genius doctor from North Korea who is thrust into a rivalry with a prominent South Korean doctor played by Park Hae-jin. Co-star Park Hae-jin is a big hallyu star, but Lee's rise is noticeable in that he's the latest among the successful model-turned-actors.His predecessors include such top stars as actorCha Seung-won, who is currently starring in "You're Surrounded" and actorKang Dong-won.
Meanwhile, Korean dramas are faring well on Youku this year.
"My Love From the Star" starring Kim Soo-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun surpassed 2.5 billion views on the Chinese site Iichii as of May 13.
The drama also fared well on other sites including PPTV, a peer-to-peer streaming video site and the Chinese video site LETV.
Kim's agency, Keyeast said it estimates that about 3.7 billion viewers watched the drama in China.
Actor Lee Min-ho's drama "The Heirs," aired at the beginning of the year, was also a smash hit in China with more than 160 million viewers.
