Panasonic has rolled out a new mirror-less camera and a wearable video camera in Korea.

The Japanese electronics maker said it has strengthened its product portfolio with high-performance video recording devices aimed at meeting demand during the summer vacation season.

"The 4K image and lightweight action cameras have drawn attention in the global camera industry," Panasonic Korea President Roh Un-ha said in Seoul, Tuesday. "I hope the new devices, which have the latest technologies of Panasonic, will attract customers who seek to capture lively moments this summer."

Panasonic said it had pushed the 4K imaging technology and networking functions as key features for its latest cameras. A 4K, or ultra high-definition, image has fourfold resolution and more clarity compared with a full high-definition (FHD) image.

Panasonic is also researching 8K imaging technology to commercialize it before the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The company said the new mirror-less and lens-interchangeable camera, dubbed "Lumix DMC-G7," specialized in 4K images and videos. It supported a burst-shot mode that allowed users to take 30 pictures with 4K resolution in a second.

It also supports recording of 4K videos at 24 frames per second (fps) and FHD videos at 60 fps. Users also can capture still images from the recorded 4K videos.

The latest Lumix G camera has a micro four-thirds sensor that supports about 16 megapixels in resolution. Its Venus image processing engine automatically sets the focus in 0.07 seconds and provides the tracking auto-focusing function, which has been upgraded by 200 percent from its predecessor, the company said.

Lightweight, wearable camcorder

The new wearable video camera, "HX-A1," weighs only 45 grams.

With an external infrared light, which can be bought as an accessory, it can take FHD videos with up to 3.54 megapixel resolution, even when there is no light. It also is shockproof and waterproof and has a noise-reduction function, making it ideal as an outdoor action camera, Panasonic Korea said.

"With the heated popularity of leisure and sport activities here, the sales of action cameras have more than doubled from 15,000 in 2013 to 35,000 last year," Roh said. "The number is expected to rise over 50,000 this year."

Users can connect to Wi-Fi and live-stream the video they are recording through the network, Panasonic said.
