A photo exhibition titled "Sustainable Living Space in the EU" is being presented by members of the EU delegation to Korea in Seoul and Busan Sept. 25 to Oct 12.

EU ambassadors and Seoul City Mayor Park Won-soon attended an opening ceremony at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in central Seoul, Sunday.

The exhibition features 29 photos of "green" buildings provided by 18 EU member states and aims to help raise public attention to the issues of climate change and sustainability in construction and architecture.

EU Delegation head Gerhard Sabathil said, "Buildings use nearly 40 percent of produced energy globally and account for one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions. The building sector could dramatically reduce these emissions by transforming how buildings are designed, built and managed. The exhibits display innovative designs which can be inspirational to all those involved in the construction industry and general public."

With a growing interest in sustainable buildings and architecture, European countries are playing a leading role in developing and promoting sustainability in the building sector.

The opening ceremony in Busan will be led by Ambassador Sabathil and Hong Seong-hoa, Busan's ambassador for international relations, at Busan Station Plaza on Oct. 7 at 2 p.m.

The two-part exhibition takes place in Seoul Sept. 25 to 29 and in Busan Oct. 7 to 12. The event is part of the EU's global initiative — EU Climate Diplomacy Week — aiming to raise public awareness on climate issues.
