CJ E&M will boost its internet-based broadcasting content platform service "Tving," the CJ Group affiliate said Wednesday.

"This is the first service renovation for Tving since we received the service from CJ HelloVision earlier in January," CJ E&M's Tving business team leader Ko Chang-nam said. "We will continue to focus on improving user accessibility and maximizing content experience in developing additional Tving service."

The entertainment and broadcasting affiliate acquired the Tving business from CJ HelloVision while the latter prepared for a merger with SK Telecom's subsidiary SK Broadband. But the merger ended in failure after the government disapproved the plan.

Since then, Tving, once one of Korea's highly potential domestic over-the-top (OTT) services, has remained adrift. But in October, CJ HelloVision said it will launch a new OTT service based on its miniature set-top device dubbed "Stick" as a part of its drive to normalize operations following the failed merger.

As CJ E&M has been focusing on reorganizing content from its broadcasting channels such as tvN and Mnet, expectations are that the two CJ affiliates may seek cooperation for a joint OTT service.

"We are open to such cooperation in a way that boosts our presence in the OTT service market," a CJ E&M spokeswoman said. "But as of now, we are concentrating on providing our popular video content through our web-based Tving platform."

CJ E&M said Tving currently provides a total of 147 live channels including tvN, Mnet and Onstyle and more than 16,000 video-on-demand content including movies.
