Top female K-pop vocalist Solji, who is having a year off because of a thyroid gland infection, will have eye surgery to treat a side effect.

The member of girl band EXID will have an orbital decompression to treat exophthalmos ― a bulging eyeball ― at a Seoul hospital on Jan. 8. The problem occurs in some patients suffering hyperthyroidism.

Solji, 28, has been off since December 2016 for treatment, leaving the band to continue performing with four members.

During the break, her thyroid gland hormones reportedly returned to the normal range, allowing her to help produce the band's fourth mini-album "Full Moon" in November and do a photo shoot for it. She also enrolled in Kyung Hee Cyber University to study the practical music program last year.

The former vocal trainer for singers and trainees housed under show business agency AB Entertainment is expected to return to the band for its spring concert.

The singer, also known as Soul-G, is considered one of the top-three female K-pop vocalists, alongside Jung Eun-ji of girl band Apink and Sistar's Hyolyn.
