Divorced former national football player Song Chong-gug said Wednesday he would sue online haters who have been writing malicious comments and spreading groundless rumors about him and his family, for the sake of his daughter and son.

Song revealed on the YouTube channel of another player, Kim Byung-ji, that he had engaged a lawyer.

"I am fully prepared to file a complaint," Song said. "Even though I am quite tolerant, I think I should take action this time. They (the online haters) do not seem to know what their faults are."

Song said he is willing to take legal action for his kids, who are grown up enough to grasp what is going on.

Song married actress Park Ip-sun, whose real name is Park Yun-soo, in 2006. They have a daughter and son, but divorced in 2015, with Park awarded custody of the children. Song was rumored to have been in an extramarital relationship.

Park and the children are appearing in the third season of tvN's reality show "Nest Escape."

"My kids frequently meet their father," Park said on the show, Tuesday. "Song and I are like friends now and I do not blame him anymore."
