TV Chosun's audition show "Ms. Trot for Tomorrow" wrapped up Thursday with 18.1 percent viewership, creating a record rating for entertainment programs on cable channels.

The show, which aims to single out female talent that would "revive" trot, also topped the ratings among programs broadcast in the same time slot. Trot is a Korean music genre characterized by repetitive rhythm and unique vocal techniques.

For Thursday's episode, five singer hopefuls, including Song Ga-in and Hong-ja, went head to head for the title of "Ms. Trot." Song clinched the victory after cutthroat competition.

"I thought I would drop out because I am neither beautiful nor trendy," she said. "I will strive to mark a new era (of Trot.)"

Song, 33, won 30 million won ($26,000). She also will be invited to 100 festivals as a guest singer.

Hong-ja was ranked No. 2, followed by Jung Mi-ae.

"We were uncertain about the program's success at first, but it has grabbed national attention," a producer said. "We want to thank our contestants for tolerating tensions and our viewers for giving positive responses."

"Ms. Trot for Tomorrow" premiered on Feb. 28, with its first episode garnering 5.89 percent viewership. The second season is reportedly set to air in the second half of the year.
