Lee Hyeon-ju, 16, a freshman at Seongju High School in Seongju County, North Gyeongsang Province, has already dedicated 142 hours and 30 minutes to volunteer activities since 2016.

Since March 2018, he has been working as an assistant teacher to teach Hangeul to preschool children at the Multicultural Family Support Center in the county every Saturday.

Although his home is a 30-minute walk from the center, Lee is never absent and comes every Saturday, as the only volunteer there who regularly comes to volunteer on weekends.

Lee not only teaches Hangeul to the children but also takes care of them during break times.

Yoo provides selfless, thoughtful care

Yoo Hee-jin
Yoo Hee-jin
Yoo Hee-jin, 17, a sophomore at Gochang Girls' High School in Gochang County, North Jeolla Province, enjoys participating in various community services.

It doesn't have to be helping the needy. She helps the community hold events smoothly and her strength lies in catching the needs of others and supporting them.

For two years, Yoo has been volunteering for the county's troupe for "nongak," a Korean style of percussion music performed traditionally by farmers. At the troupe's performance every weekend, she greets audiences with a bright smile, helps them find seats and tidies up after the show.

Yoo says volunteering has taught her responsibility, cooperation and patience.
