A SpaceX rocket carrying two veteran NASA astronauts was headed for the International Space Station on Saturday. It is the first ever crewed flight by a private company, ushering in a new era in space travel.
미항공우주국(NASA) 베테랑 우주인 두 명을 실은 스페이스X 우주선이 토요일 국제우주정거장을 향했다. 이는 민간기업에 의한 첫 유인 우주여행으로, 우주여행의 새 시대의 막을 열었다.
The two-stage Falcon 9 rocket with astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley aboard blasted off flawlessly in a cloud of bright orange flame and smoke from Florida's Kennedy Space Center for the 19-hour voyage to the orbiting space station.
우주인 로버트 벤켄과 더글라스 헐리가 탑승한 팰컨9 2단 로켓은 궤도를 도는 우주정거장까지 19시간의 항해를 위해 플로리다주 케네디우주센터에서 밝은 주황색 불꽃과 연기를 내뿜으며 한 치의 흠도 없이 발사됐다.
"Let's light this candle," Hurley, the spacecraft mission commander, told SpaceX mission control in Hawthorne, California, before liftoff at 3:22 p.m. from NASA's fabled Launch Pad 39A.
우주선 사령관을 맡은 헐리는 NASA의 전설적인 39A 발사대에서 오후 3시 22분 이륙 직전, 캘리포니아주 호손의 스페이스X 통제센터에 "촛불에 불을 붙이자"고 말했다.

The SpaceX launch is the first of American astronauts from U.S. soil since the space shuttle program ended in 2011 and the company founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk is the first commercial firm to send astronauts into orbit.
스페이스X 발사는 2011년 미국의 우주왕복선 프로그램이 종료된 이후로 미국 본토에서 쏘아 올린 첫 미국인 우주인을 만들어냈고, 기업가 일론 머스크가 설립한 이 기업은 우주인을 궤도로 보낸 첫 상업회사가 됐다.
"This is a dream come true for me and everyone at SpaceX," Musk said.
머스크는 "나와 스페이스X 모두의 꿈이 실현된 것"이라고 말했다.
SpaceX said Crew Dragon had successfully entered low orbit and was on the correct trajectory to link up with the space station 250 miles (450 kilometers) above the Earth.
스페이스X는 유인우주선 '크루 드래곤'이 성공적으로 저궤도에 진입했으며 지구 상공 250마일(450km)의 우주정거장과 도킹하기 위한 정확한 궤도에 올랐다고 밝혔다.
The launch had originally been scheduled for Wednesday but was delayed because of weather conditions, which also remained uncertain on Saturday right up until liftoff.
발사는 당초 수요일로 예정되어 있었으나 기상 상황 때문에 연기되었는데, 토요일 발사 직전까지도 불확실했다.
The mission comes despite nationwide shutdowns caused by the coronavirus crisis and protests in several U.S. cities over the death of a black man in Minneapolis while he was being arrested by a white police officer. (AFP)
이번 임무는 코로나바이러스 사태로 인한 전국적인 셧다운과 미니애폴리스에서 흑인 남성이 백인 경찰관에게 체포되는 도중 사망한 것에 대해 미국 여러 도시에서 발생한 시위에도 불구하고 이루어졌다.
