LS Cable & System (C&S) signed a five-year deal to supply high voltage cables to Danish wind power company Orsted, helping the cable maker strengthen its status as a leading player in the renewable energy business, according to LS C&S, Tuesday.

The company said it "has entered into a five-year framework agreement with global offshore wind leader Orsted for the opportunity to supply high voltage cables for offshore wind farms."

LS C&S has established a partnership with Orsted to jointly work on the construction of offshore wind farms around the world.

Orsted is a leader in the offshore wind power industry, building the world's first wind farm in 1991. The Danish company has been working on expanding its business portfolio in Asian countries that are actively trying to replace coal-fired and nuclear power plants with renewable sources.

The cable maker has previously supplied Orsted with cables that were used for the world's largest offshore wind farm Hornsea One and Two in the U.K. The company also has supplied its subsea cables for the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a Offshore Wind Farms in Taiwan.

With more countries strengthening their investment in the renewable energy business, LS C&S expects it will be able to meet the growing demand for cables needed for offshore wind farms.

"The trend of investing in renewable energy will continue, even under the current COVID-19 situation. We are delighted to continue this cooperation with the leading company in offshore wind energy," Myung Roe-hyun, president and CEO of LS C&S, said.

Matthias Bausenwein, president of Orsted Asia-Pacific, said: "The offshore wind market is growing fast, particularly in the Asia Pacific. Orsted as the global market leader needs strong, reliable and competitive suppliers. Therefore, we are very happy to have further strengthened our partnership with LS C&S."
