A third of households in Seoul are single-person ones, according to a biennial report on living conditions by the Seoul Metropolitan Government released Thursday.
서울시가 2년마다 발표하는 복지실태조사에 따르면 서울 가구의 3분의 1이 1인 가구인 것으로 나타났다.
The 2020 report conducted on 4,041 households (9,472 people) in the capital revealed that 33.3 percent of all households were single-person.
서울 시내 4041가구(9472명 가구원)를 대상으로 실시한 지난해 조사 결과 전체 가구의 33.3%가 1인 가구인 것으로 나타났다.
This accounted for the largest portion, followed by two-member households at 25.8 percent, three-member ones at 20.6 percent and four-member ones at 19.2 percent.
2인 가구(25.8%), 3인 가구(20.6%), 4인 가구(19.2%)가 그 뒤를 이었다.
In particular, 41.2 percent of the single-person households were young people aged between 19 and 34, followed by 22.6 percent who were elderly aged 65 or over.
특히 1인 가구의 41.2%가 19~34세 청년층이었고, 65세 이상 노인이 22.6%로 나타났다.
Almost half, or 48.6 percent, said they were living alone to be near their workplace or school.
거의 절반인 48.6%가 직장이나 학교 근처에서 혼자 살고 있다고 응답했다.
About 31.3 percent said they live alone after being divorced, separated or bereaved.
약 31.3%는 이혼, 별거 또는 사별 후 혼자 산다고 답했다.
Their satisfaction level about living alone differed by age groups: about 71 percent of young single-people said they were happy living alone, but only 41.5 percent of those who were middle-aged and 43.7 percent of the elderly said so.
혼자 사는 것에 대한 만족도는 연령대별로 달랐다. 약 71%의 청년 1인 가구는 혼자 사는 것이 행복하다고 답한 반면 중장년 1인 가구는 41.5%, 노인 1인 가구는 43.7%만이 행복하다고 답했다.
As to difficulties of living alone, 42.1 percent of young people cited emergency situations, while those in the middle-aged group picked loneliness and the elderly, economic hardship.
혼자 사는 어려움에 대해서는 청년층의 42.1%가 위급 상황을 꼽았고, 중장년층은 외로움, 노인층에서는 경제적 불안감을 꼽았다.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is planning to use the data to establish support policies for single-person households in the city. It launched a special taskforce to support single-person households April 19, and the team will become a regular unit of the city government next month.
서울시는 조사 결과를 활용해 서울 시내 1인 가구 지원 정책을 수립할 계획이다. 지난 4월 19일 ‘1인 가구 특별대책TF'가 만들어졌고, 다음 달 시장 직속의 정규조직으로 출범한다.
