South Korea's daily coronavirus cases have shot up to over 13,000 as the omicron variant has driven a surge in infections.

Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said the government's antivirus response will prioritize the reduction of critical cases and deaths during a meeting of government COVID-19 response headquarters.

Over the Seollal holiday, falling Jan. 29-Feb. 2, more clinics will be set up for screening patients with suspected symptoms.
