Actor Lee Joon-gi hopes he can offer a cathartic experience to viewers, as he stars in SBS' upcoming action series, "Again My Life," which he describes as a good-defeats-evil story.

"The series unfolds different cases and subplots in a simple, uncomplicated way. I had the strong desire that the justice-seeking story will provide joy, hope and a sense of catharsis to people, especially during this time when many may feel frustrated," the actor said via a written interview through the network. "I hope viewers can feel my intention and find the series enjoyable."

Based on the web novel of the same name by Lee Hae-nal, the new series, set to air on April 8, revolves around dedicated prosecutor Kim Hee-woo (Lee). He gets killed while investigating powerful, corrupt politician Jo Tae-seob (Lee Kyoung-young).

Just when he was about to die, he gets a second chance at life and is sent back to his 15-year-old self. Using his skills and knowledge, he takes the chance to catch his murderer and fight against the politician to hunt down the criminal cartel.

The series is directed by Han Chul-soo, whose previous work includes the 2019 mystery series, "Graceful Family," and is co-scripted by writers Yoo Jeong-soo and Kim Yul.

The actor said that he was offered the role twice and felt a connection with the series. "I was drawn to the story and the interesting concept of the series. To be honest, I couldn't decide on the role right away. But when the offer came around the second time, I felt that the series and I were meant to be," he said.

"I thought it would be interesting to blend in my emotions into the character of Hee-woo and felt drawn to it."

He said that the colorful character who goes through an unusual set of events interested him in taking the role.

"I used to take on roles of characters who go through a turbulent life. I've always felt drawn to those characters with stories in which I can express colorful emotions, and wanted to create those characters in my own way," he said.

Lee added that he is taking references for creating the role of Hee-won and practicing action sequences for the hardcore action scenes in the series.

"As I discussed my character with the director, I came to think that I should create him to be an eager, straightforward man who is smart and passionate, but also kind-hearted and soft … So I've been doing visual training with videos and other references for ideas to set his character apart, like through tone and gestures," he said.

"There are a lot of action scenes involved with the character, so I've been sharing a lot of ideas with the stunt director. I've been eagerly taking part in coming up with the style and sequences for those parts."

"Again My Life" airs every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. on SBS from April 8.
