Korea needs to create drug enforcement agency
한국, 마약 통합 관리기관 필요해
Actor Lee Sun-kyun, who played a wealthy professional in the Oscar-winning movie "Parasite," was booked Monday for an investigation into his alleged use of illegal drugs.

.Against this backdrop, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared a war on drugs in April. It was the right move, if not belated. However, the government will likely lose that battle as things stand now. The drug administration is dispersed among too many agencies, and their budgets are too tight.
이런 상황에서 윤석열 대통령은 4월 마약과의 전쟁을 선포했다. 다소 늦었을지는 몰라도 올바른 움직이었다. 하지만 현 상황으로 볼 때 정부는 이 전쟁에서 질 것 같다. 마약 단속 기관이 너무 많은 부서에 퍼져있고, 재정도 충분하지 못하다.In contrast, a more diverse and cheaper range of drugs are appearing. 현재, 국정원과 관세청은 마약 반입을 단속하기 위해 노력 중이다. 경찰과 검찰은 마약 투약자를 찾아내 처벌 중이다. 국세청과 금융당국은 부정 이득을 회수하고, 보건당국은 중독자들을 "치료"하고 회복을 돕고 있다.For more efficient handling of these jobs, the government should integrate as much work as possible into a single agency. The time has long passed for Korea to have an organization like the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
이러한 일들을 더 효율적으로 운영하기 위해서 정부는 하나의 기관에 가능한 많은 일을 통합시켜야 한다. 한국은 이미 오래 전 미국의 마약 단속국(DEA)과 같은 기관을 세웠어야 한다.The Ministry of Justice is pushing to establish a Korean DEA. The National Assembly should transcend partisan politics and approve it.
법무부는 한국판 DEA 설립을 강하게 추진하고 있다. 국회는 당파 정치를 벗어나 이를 승인해야 한다.
