Actress Shin Min-a is returning to the silver screen with the heartfelt drama film "Our Season," about three years after starring in the mystery thriller film "Diva."

The new fantasy film, set to hit local theaters on Dec. 6, revolves around a mother, Bok-ja (Kim Hae-sook), who goes on a special vacation from Heaven.

Three years after her death, Bok-ja gets three days to go down to Earth as a spirit to watch over her proud daughter, Jin-joo (Shin), a professor at a prestigious college in the United States. What she doesn't know is that Jin-joo has returned to their old house.

Being unable to speak or communicate with her daughter, Bok-ja learns new aspects and struggles over Jin-joo over the days.

The film is directed by Yook Sang-hyo, who previously led the 2019 drama film "Inseparable Bros," and is scripted by writer Yoo Young-ah, who wrote the 2018 romance series "Encounter" and the 2013 drama film "Miracle in Cell No. 7."

"(The film) portrays the universal emotion of the mother-daughter bond in an honest but fictional way, which I felt was beautiful and charming. Not just about the mother, it's a movie that would remind people of what they liked about the loved ones they lost," Shin said during a press conference for the film at CGV in Yongsan District, Seoul, Monday.

"I found the movie to be heartwarming and related to the character of Jin-joo a lot. I wanted to feel these emotions through playing her and felt they could be familiar to me so I decided to join the project."

The director shared that the script made him so emotional that he couldn't finish reading it in one sitting.

"I couldn't read the whole script at once because I would tear up. I found this to be an emotionally powerful piece so I decided to take on the film," he said.

"I believe a mother-daughter relationship is about individuals with one of the most fundamental human connections creating love together … I see this film as a movie about longing (for someone). I hope that when people watch this film, they will feel a sense of longing for their family, whether they are right beside them or gone."

Jin-joo takes over the restaurant that Bok-ja used to run, living in a peaceful suburban town. Shin shared that although she doesn't really enjoy cooking, she came to take an interest, hoping to cook for her loved ones one day.

"Jin-joo doesn't require substantial cooking skills, but rather she only needed to know basic cutting and preparation skills for home-cooked meals," she said. "I'm not particularly fond of cooking, but through this film, I realized the importance of preparing a meal easily. It made me want to learn cooking from my mom someday and treat her to a special meal."
